Lock the hopper correctly
Remove the hopper, clear visible dry debris around the interlock, then refit and turn it fully into the locked position. Fill with a small amount of dry beans and test once.
✓ After this stepThe filter-size lights stop flashing and the grinder starts normally. - 02
Clear the dry chute and removable burr
With power disconnected, follow the manual’s grinder-cleaning illustrations to brush the dry chute and the removable upper burr. Do not pour water into the grinder and do not remove the machine casing.
✓ After this stepThe chute is visibly dry and clear before reassembly. - 03
Protect the safety clutch
Use the correct basket dose so grounds cannot backfill the chute. If a loud ratchet sound returns or the grinder stops again after one dry clean, switch it off immediately and use Breville/Sage service.
✓ After this stepGround coffee exits evenly without ratcheting or overheating.

FAQ · Breville / Sage Barista Express
Why are both filter-size lights flashing?
The manual links this to an open hopper safety interlock. Remove visible debris and lock the hopper fully before testing once.
Can I wash the grinder chamber with water?
No. Moisture itself is a documented cause of blockage. Clean the specified removable parts dry and keep water out of the grinder.
