How to descale a Melitta AromaFresh when coffee flows slowly
On AromaFresh filter machines, slower flow, extra steam or noise and reduced volume usually point to scale. Use the CALC program and a filter-coffee descaler, not espresso-machine advice.
Before you start
- ✓Match the Type number to the exact AromaFresh manual.
- ✓Remove coffee and the paper filter.
- ✓Keep the jug correctly positioned throughout the cycle.

Use filter-coffee descaler
Dose a suitable product according to its label; Melitta recommends Anti Calc for filter coffee makers. Do not use white vinegar or products based on mineral acids.
✓ After this stepThe solution is mixed exactly to the product directions. - 02
Run CALC to completion
Press CALC and let the automatic program run for its full 25 minutes, even if the tank appears empty before the end.
✓ After this stepThe program ends on its own. - 03
Rinse twice with clear water
Rinse the tank, fill to maximum and run two full water-only brew cycles. Do not add coffee or a paper filter.
✓ After this stepNo descaler smell remains and the normal volume returns. - 04
Repeat once only if heavily scaled
Melitta allows a second correct descaling pass for heavy scale. If flow still does not recover after that pass and rinsing, stop rather than multiplying treatments.
✓ After this stepFlow is stable; otherwise manufacturer service is the next step.
