Nespresso leaking: capsule-area checks and the safe stop point
Original and Vertuo use different mechanisms and capsules. On Original, water around the capsule or in the used-capsule bin starts with capsule seating. On Vertuo, also check tank seating and head lock. A persistent or underside leak goes to Nespresso service.
Before you start
- ✓Eject the used capsule only when the head or lever opens normally.
- ✓Dry the counter and keep the plug area dry.
- ✓Never put fingers near capsule perforators.
Checks to run in order

Identify Original or Vertuo
Read the machine name and use only the matching capsule family. Do not use an adapter or present a third-party capsule as guaranteed compatible.

Check capsule seating on Original
If water appears around the capsule or in the used-capsule bin, remove the capsule when safe, fit a new undamaged Original capsule correctly and close the lever without force.

Check tank and head on Vertuo
Seat the tank fully, eject the old capsule, insert the correct Vertuo capsule and close and lock the head exactly as the manual shows. Do not force a resistant head.

Stop after one failed supervised test
If the same leak returns with the correct capsule and seating, or water comes from beneath, switch off and contact Nespresso. Descaling is not a substitute for service when water reaches the base.

Are Original and Vertuo capsules interchangeable?
No. The systems and capsules are distinct. Never force one format into the other machine.
Should I buy a universal Nespresso water filter?
No standard universal cartridge is specified for Original and Vertuo machines. Do not buy one without an exact model-specific manufacturer reference.
