Nespresso Original vs Vertuo: compatibility first
The two capsule systems do not interchange. Here is the decision in plain language.
Essenza Mini D30 and Vertuo Pop ENV90.A may look equally simple, but their capsules are completely different and cannot be interchanged. Essenza Mini focuses on compact Original-format espresso and lungo. Vertuo Pop offers five cup sizes, from 25 ml ristretto to 230 ml mug. The right choice depends less on the machine’s appearance than on your preferred drinks, local capsule selection and long-term cost per cup.
What to compare before buying
- Capsules: Essenza Mini uses Original capsules only; ENV90.A uses Vertuo capsules only.
- Cup sizes: D30 prepares 40 ml espresso and 110 ml lungo. ENV90.A supports 25, 40, 80, 150 and 230 ml.
- Ecosystem: compare local capsule availability, pack sizes, recycling options and recurring cost before choosing.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Essenza Mini D30 if you mainly drink espresso or lungo and want a very compact machine with access to the Original capsule ecosystem. Choose Vertuo Pop ENV90.A if you genuinely use several cup formats, especially double espresso, gran lungo or mug. In both cases, check local capsule ranges before buying: the two systems cannot be mixed.
Questions buyers ask
Can Original capsules be used in Vertuo Pop?
No. Their shape, brewing method and identification system differ. Original capsules belong in Essenza Mini D30; Vertuo capsules belong in ENV90.A. An identical brand name does not make the two formats compatible.
Is the cheapest machine necessarily cheaper long term?
No. Compare the recurring cost per drink, preferred capsule pack sizes and local availability. A lower machine price can matter less than years of capsule purchases within a system you cannot later change.
